Stony Brook University cops seek man in dorm break-ins

Stony Brook University police are looking for a man who burglarized one residential room and broke into four others at the school early Thursday.

Robert Lenahan, chief of the department, said Thursday the burglar took a wallet containing credit cards and cash from one of the rooms and was seen entering two others.

"In the two other rooms, people living there saw him, and he turned around and walked right back out," Lenahan said.

University officers responded to a report of a suspicious man near the Schick College residence hall on the campus about 6:30 a.m., Lenahan said.

After interviewing several residents, officers determined the man was able to get into four residential rooms at Schick College and one at the Eisenhower College residence hall before fleeing.

University police said the burglar did not show a weapon and no one was injured.

Lenahan said police are still investigating, and the man may have entered other rooms.
