Four Suffolk County residents were arrested for driving drunk or high on drugs late Friday or early Saturday at a sobriety checkpoint in Smithtown, police said.
The checkpoint on Route 25 was conducted as a prelude to the Labor Day weekend to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by intoxicated driving, Suffolk police said.
A total of 525 vehicles went through the checkpoint, which operated from 11 p.m. through 3 a.m.
Two men were charged with driving while intoxicated: Max Haller, 22, of Dianne Avenue in Centereach and Keith Delauzon, 40, of Bond Lane in Nesconset.
Taylor Tramazzo, 18, of Middle Drive in Lake Grove, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. And Richard Rodriguez, 41, of Heritage Place South in Nesconset, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Rodriguez was charged with a D felony because he has two prior convictions for driving while intoxicated in the past decade.
All four motorists are scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
