Suffolk County homicide detectives are investigating a man's death Saturday night following a report of a disturbance at a Rocky Point bar.
Police said the cause of death was a "medical event," but it was unclear whether that occurred during the disturbance. The victim was identified as Michael Murphy, 42, of Rocky Point.
Police said authorities were called to the Rocky Point Ale House, 42 Broadway, about 10 p.m. Saturday.
Arriving officers saw that Murphy was in distress. He was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was pronounced dead at 11:24 p.m., police said.
Police said an off-duty Nassau County police officer was in the bar at the time but had no involvement in the incident.
A man who answered the phone at the bar Sunday said an argument erupted between "two people who didn't like each other." He said the men left the bar, one chasing the other, and the man being pursued suffered a heart attack.
Police, who did not identify the other man, could not confirm that account.
No arrests had been made.
