A Fifth Precinct patrol officer was airlifted to a hospital after his car and a van collided Wednesday afternoon in Holbrook, Suffolk police said.
"He is getting treated for lacerations to his face," Fifth Precinct Insp. William Silva said.
The officer was heading to a call in his marked car, which had lights and sirens on, police said. He stopped at a red light on northbound Broadway Avenue, then "proceeded with caution" but was hit on his passenger side by the van going west on the Sunrise Highway service road, police said.
The patrolman was treated at Stony Brook University Hospital and released, police said, while the van driver declined medical attention.
Other details were not available Wednesday night.
