Suspect sought in West Islip gas station robbery

An unarmed masked man robbed a Shell station on the Sunrise Highway service drive in West Islip early Friday, Suffolk County police said.

The robber walked into the station at 540 E. Sunrise Service Rd. at about 1:25 a.m. and demanded cash from an attendant, police said.

The attendant turned over an unspecified amount of cash, police said, and the robber fled on foot.

Police responded to a 911 call and searched for the suspect but did not find him, a police spokeswoman said.
