A West Babylon man was arrested Wednesday in connection with an early morning burglary in which a 42-year-old North Bellport resident was shot in the stomach, police said.
Tory Fenner, 39, of 101 Lenox Road, West Babylon, was charged with burglary in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal posession of a weapon in the third degree.
The victim, who was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue by his 21-year-old son, was listed in serious but stable condition, police said. He is expected to recover.
Police said the victim noticed an unknown vehicle parked in front of his home on Sundial Lane at approximately 3 a.m.
The man spoke briefly with the three men in the vehicle. When he attempted to return to his home, two of the vehicle’s occupants jumped out of the car. At least one was pointing a gun at the victim’s head and forced him into his house.
Once inside, a struggle ensued between at least one of the suspects, the man and his son. It was then that the victim was shot once in the stomach.
Police said the suspects fled and a description of their vehicle was broadcast to patrol units. Shortly after, a Seventh Precinct patrol officer located the vehicle on Stuart Road in Shirley.
Two of the three men fled on foot while another was taken into custody.
Detectives are asking anyone with information call 631-854-8552 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
