A tractor trailer crashed into a Long Island Expressway overpass in Manorville Thursday and part of its load fell off, leading to a five-hour shutdown of two lanes, Suffolk police said.

A large, corkscrew-shaped tiller landed onto westbound lanes just east of Exit 70 when the truck hit Halsey Manor Road Bridge at 1:10 p.m., police said. Heavy equipment was required to remove it, police said.

The right and center lanes were closed, but reopened at 6 p.m., state transportation officials said.

State engineers inspected the bridge for damage, police said. A state transportation spokeswoman was not immediately available to provide updates on the damage.

No serious injuries were reported, police said, and no one was charged. Other details were not immediately available.
