A special education tutor was arrested Tuesday and charged with stealing jewelry from several homes where she tutored students, police said.

Bonni Blier, 36, of 43 Innis St., Ronkonkoma, was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and one count each of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny.

She was arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip and held on a bail of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

Suffolk County police said Blier, hired as an in-home tutor for several special needs students, became a suspect after people reported jewelry had been stolen from their Hauppauge homes beginning in January. Police said Wednesday that Blier was charged in at least four thefts and that investigators are trying to determine if she is involved in additional thefts.

It was not immediately clear how much jewelry was stolen. The value of that jewelry also was unknown.
