Two residents, a man and a woman, were able to escape uninjured from a smoky basement fire early Monday at a Dix Hills home, officials said.

A Dix Hills Fire Department spokesman said about 70 firefighters from Dix Hills, Deer Park, Greenlawn, Melville and Huntington Manor "aggressively battled the blaze" at the home on Seaman Neck Road.

The fire at the one-story home was reported at 12:10 a.m. Officials said PSEG Long Island also responded to the scene and shut power and disconnected what was described as "a burning electrical service line."

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County police Arson Squad and the Huntington Town Fire Marshal, officials said.

The extent of the damage was not immediately known.
