Quarter Master Chief Adam Congello of Westchester, tells the story of the day Lt. Michael Murphy was killed in Afghanistan. The mess hall on the USS Michael Murphy has a Wall of Heroes in honor of Lt Murphy, members of his Seal Team that died, members of the Seal Team that tried to rescue him and his team, and the helicopter crew that were killed during the rescue attempt. USS Michael Murphy named after LI Navy SEAL

An Aegis-class destroyer was named after Navy SEAL Michael Murphy, a Medal of Honor winner who was killed in action in 2005 in Afghanistan. Family and supporters gathered for the ship's christening and commissioning.
