Multiple lanes of Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge will be closed Monday through Friday over the next 10 weeks as the State Department of Transportation repaves a deteriorated 1.4-mile stretch of roadway.

The work, weather permitting, begins Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Route 454 between Old Willets Path and Route 111, the DOT said.

While at least one eastbound and westbound travel lane will remain open at all times, several lanes are expected to close during overnight hours. Lanes may also be closed for brief periods, the agency said, to position construction equipment.

The repaving, part of a $7.8-million project to repair Long Island’s most heavily traveled roadways, will take place largely during the evening hours, although some midday lane closures will be necessary, state officials said.

Crews will remove and replace the damaged top layer of asphalt, install fresh pavement markings and improve the roadway’s drainage, the DOT said. The project is expected to be complete by the end of August.
