A Bellport High School senior has made his mark by excelling in both academics and athletics.

Connor Cipp, who is ranked third in his class, has been involved in a long list of extracurricular activities and secured numerous honors as a linebacker, fullback and captain for his school's varsity football team.

Most recently, he was selected as one of the players to represent Long Island this month in the Boomer Esiason Empire Challenge, an all-star game.

"It's an honor to be seen as someone who excels in both," Cipp, 18, said of academics and athletics. "It takes a lot of patience and determination."

Cipp's academic feats include being on Bellport's Math and Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Bay Scallop Bowl, and Latin Certamen teams -- serving as captain of the latter two. He also earned a perfect score on the National Latin Exam and was named an ambassador of the nonprofit Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership in 2012.

As a scholar-athlete, he was 2013 Class-A Scholar-Athlete of the Year of the New York State High School Football Coaches Association and inducted into the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame.
