Devynn Danziger has turned her enjoyment of BOCES classes into a college scholarship.

The senior at Patchogue-Medford High School and Eastern Suffolk BOCES' Edward J. Milliken Technical Center in Oakdale is winner of the 2012 Suffolk Region PTA Scholarship, based on a 200-word essay she submitted on the topic: "How has the BOCES educational experience helped to prepare you for your future?"

"That was probably the easiest paper I've ever written," said Danziger, 18, who received a $500 scholarship for the achievement. Of her BOCES experience, she said: "It's important because it's very hands-on. Every day we are doing something new and different."

In the essay Danziger said she described how Milliken's certified personal trainer classes introduced her to the science of that field. She said she aspires to become an athletic trainer and has learned to design weight-training and nutritional programs in her classes.

Danziger is president of Eastern Suffolk BOCES' SkillsUSA Chapter and a member of Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk. At Patchogue-Medford she is a member of the National Honor Society, plays trumpet in the school's wind ensemble and has played girls junior varsity softball.
