Eli Demacopoulos never expected his artwork would be seen by so many people.

A mixed-media creation by the second-grader at North Ridge Primary School in Commack was selected from several hundred pieces statewide to be featured on the New York State School Boards Association's holiday card next winter.

Eli's artwork, titled "Starry Starry Night," features a snowy town beneath a star-filled sky. He used construction paper for the buildings and markers to draw the sky and snow.

"I thought it came out great," Eli, 7, said of the piece, which he created when he was a first-grader. "In almost all the houses and the church, I cut open part of the doors so they would open up."

The card will be distributed to education agencies and legislators, as well as other groups and people who have relationships with the state School Boards Association.

Eli's artwork was selected from among those in a student art exhibit held during the New York State Art Teachers Association's 64th annual conference in Rochester this fall.

Eli is a member of North Ridge Primary's chess and reading clubs. He also has appeared in plays coordinated by St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Greenlawn.
