A West Islip man was killed early Saturday when he was struck by an oncoming pickup truck on Sunrise Highway / Route 27 in West Islip, police said.

The man, Gregory Wilson, 27, of West Islip was pronounced dead at the scene, just east of Udall Road, about 5 a.m.

"We don't know if he was crossing or walking along the road way," said Suffolk County Police Sgt. Patrick Brooks.

Christopher Campoverde, 28, of Selden was driving in the right, eastbound lane when his 2004 Ford pickup hit Wilson. Campoverde was not injured, police said.

The eastbound lanes of the highway near Exit 41 from Udall Road to the Robert Moses Causeway were closed for more than four hours as police conducted an accident investigation. The road was reopened at 9:40 a.m., police said.

There were no other injuries reported. The accident was ruled noncriminal and no charges were filed.

No other details were immediately available.
