A Wyandanch woman, speeding and driving while high on drugs and alcohol with a 12-year-old girl in the car, was arrested on Friday evening, Suffolk police said.

Michelle McDermid, 29, of Grand Avenue, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Grand Avenue in Deer Park shortly before 11 p.m. when she was pulled over for speeding.

The patrol officers found McDermid had been drinking and using drugs with a child in the front passenger seat, police said. A department spokeswoman said the girl is not related to the suspect.

McDermid is charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under the age of 15, also known as Leandra's Law. She is also charged with driving while under the influence of drugs, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Police did not disclose how fast McDermid was driving or the specific drugs she had taken.

McDermid will be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip.
