Sunnyside Gardens landmarked
The City Council voted unanimously to make Sunnyside Gardens in Queens, one of the first planned communities in the country, a landmarked historic district.
The 17-block neighborhood of modest brick row houses was constructed in the 1920s as a "garden community" for low- and middle-income residents and included landscaped garden space behind the homes that all the neighbors shared.
