Boy becomes pirate at LI Maritime Pirate Festival

The Long Island Maritime Museum hosted its annual Pirate Festival on June 15 and 16 with a special twist. On Saturday, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County teamed up with the museum to grant cancer survivor Jessie Olmedo's wish to become a pirate.

Jessie Olmedo, 6, of Medford, had his wish come true Saturday when he got to be a pirate for the day at the Long Island Maritime Museum's Pirate Festival. He led pirates on a hunt for buried treasure, participated in pirate shows and took his first sailboat ride. (June 15, 2013)

In addition to getting to be a pirate for the day, Jessie Olmedo, 6, of Medford, was surprised at the Long Island Maritime Museum Pirate Festival with a treasure chest full of toys and a wooden pirate ship playground set. The Make-A-Wish Foundation partnered with the museum to make his wish come true after his two-year battle with cancer. (June 15, 2013)
