ABOUT THE FARM Chris Broder's chickens live a free-ranging, outdoor life before they come to you. The birds, which average 4 to 5 pounds, are antibiotic-free and are not fed any genetically modified food. Browder says the meat from pasture-raised birds has a nicer, firmer texture and flavor. "They're outside most of their lives," Browder says. "They can scratch the ground and eat worms, bugs and whatever they catch. Because they're able to move around, the texture of the meat is firmer and closer to what it should be. And their yolk tends to be richer in color and the eggs have excellent flavor."
