An Albertson man who attempted to rob a Port Jefferson Station home was chased and apprehended by the homeowner and a neighbor Sunday night, Suffolk police say.

At 8:36 p.m., police say Sixth Precinct Police Officer Simone Ross responded to investigate multiple 911 reports of a burglary in progress on John Street.

Police say Ross learned that the homeowner had apprehended James J. Lather, 36, of 143 Devon Rd., Albertson. Lather was allegedly seen leaving the house and later found with cash stolen from the home, according to the homeowner.

Sixth Squad Detectives also responded.
