The village of Garden City was founded in 1869 by multimillionaire Alexander Turney Stewart. The village and surrounding areas with similar names (East Garden City, Garden City Park, Garden City South) are home to attractions like Nunley's Carousel, the Cradle of Aviation and Roosevelt Field, the site of Charles Lindbergh's historic solo cross-Atlantic nonstop flight.
