Allen Sedaka, 56, of Great Neck, constructed an 11-foot sculpture of the Twin Towers, made of terrazzo, and donated it to the Great Neck Alert Fire Co. 1 in honor of Jonathan Ielpi, a firefighter who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. “I had to do something for them,” Sedaka said. “They put their life on the line for us and this is a small part of what I can do for them.” (Sept. 6, 2012)

Great Neck man's 9/11 memorial graces firehouse

Allen Sedaka, 56, of Great Neck, created this statue of the Twin Towers out of terrazzo and donated it to the Great Neck Alert Fire Co. 1 after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The memorial honors Jonathan Ielpi, who joined the firehouse in 1989 at age 17. He was a member of FDNY's Squad 288 in Maspeth, Queens, when he was killed at the WTC at age 29.
