$400G state grant for East End fuel facility

East Hampton Town and East Hampton Village plan to share a $400,000 state grant to build a new joint fuel facility for their cars and trucks, replacing separate fuel depots that were labeled “aging and inadequate” by Assemb. Fred W. Thiele Jr. (I-Sag Harbor).

The grant, announced Tuesday by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s office, is one of 68 given statewide through New York’s Local Government Efficiency program.

The facility is to be built on Springs Fireplace Road and include a generator to allow it to remain open in case of power failure caused by a storm or other event.

Thiele said the Shared Joint Fueling Facility would reduce the cost of gasoline per gallon, upgrade fuel inventory control and billing, reduce the environmental impact of the gas fueling operation, and let the town and village close their existing pumps.

The site will be designed to meet local, state and federal regulations covering toxic and hazardous materials.
