6 tons of electronic hardware collected at Brookhaven Town drive
That’s a lot of waste.
Brookhaven collected more than 11,500 pounds — or nearly 6 tons — of electronic hardware during the town’s annual e-waste drive March 23 at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai.
Residents dropped off televisions, computers, copiers, printers, cellphones, laptops and other old electronics for safe recycling, according to Councilwoman Jane Bonner.
“We all have old electronic items tucked away in drawers and cluttering our closets and basements and the E-Waste Drive is the perfect opportunity to safely recycle these unused electronic devices and help make Brookhaven a cleaner and greener place to live,” Bonner said in a news release. “I thank all the residents who dropped off so many items that if not disposed of properly, could be harmful to the environment.”
