Always a fan, Lynbrook homecoming queen gets view from the field
As someone who describes herself as “not sporty,” the last thing Lynbrook High School senior Angela Criscuolo expected was to be riding in the homecoming parade as queen presiding over the school’s first big sporting event of the year.
When her friends told her that they had nominated her for homecoming court, she took it as a joke.
“I was surprised that I was nominated,” Criscuolo said. “Then I actually won it, and I was really shocked. It was very unexpected.”

Having friends on several different teams, Criscuolo always found herself playing the role of supportive fan.
“I go to all the games,” Criscuolo said. “I’m just not sporty.”
Her school spirit and support hasn’t gone unnoticed by her friends and classmates, who crowned her during Friday afternoon’s pep rally. After the initial shock of winning wore off, she was able to enjoy the homecoming festivities from a new perspective.
The parade, led by Superintendent Melissa Burak, began at Lynbrook High School and marched down Union Avenue to the Marion Street School football field.
The Lynbrook marching band set an upbeat tone and the school’s cheerleading and kick line teams kept onlookers entertained with enthusiastic cheers. Criscuolo and eight other members of the homecoming court rode along the route in convertibles, waving at friends and family.
Criscuolo’s king, senior Miles Finkelstein, 17, was waiting for her at the field. As a member of the Varsity football team, Finkelstein spent the morning warming up for the game against Glen Cove High School.
“It [being crowned] was awesome,” Finkelstein said. “I know all my friends and my team are behind me.”
