Asharoken chooses manager for village hall reconstruction project
The Village of Asharoken’s board of trustees has authorized its mayor to enter into a contract with a Long Island company to use its project manager services for Asharoken’s Village Hall reconstruction project.
The board unanimously voted at its Aug. 6 meeting to authorize the contract with Bellport-based The Facilities Management Group not to exceed $36,762, according to village documents.
Mayor Gregory Letica said Friday a contract hadn’t been signed yet and that officials were in the information-gathering stage of the reconstruction project. Superstorm Sandy accelerated the project, after the current building was flooded and left unusable. Village business offices and the police department are now operating out of two trailers in the Village Hall parking lot.
John Ross of John W. Ross Homes of Northport, chairman of the Village Hall Restoration-Development Committee, designed the new hall. The most recent plans call for a two-story structure, with a 2,781-square-foot heated first floor. This area will house the village meeting hall, village clerk and officials’ offices, and the police department. The second floor attic space will contain the mechanical room and stored files, and will be an area for future storage, according to village documents.
The current Village Hall is about 1,500 square feet. The village has about $500,000 for the project, with $183,571 in assigned village funds, and the rest in donations.
