Billy Crystal donation used to buy Long Beach bandwagon
Long Beach has purchased a new bandwagon with money donated from actor and city native Billy Crystal.
The bandwagon, a vehicle that can be used for performances during events, will cost $137,176.
The city council Tuesday night unanimously voted to purchase the vehicle from Century Industries of Sellersburg, Ind. The company was the lowest bidder on the project, according to city records.

The city issued a statement that the “very generous donation made by Billy and Janice Crystal” will allow for the purchase of the vehicle, which will be used for “city and community events.”
Crystal made a $1 million donation to the city in June, city officials said.
He moved to Long Beach as a toddler in 1951, and wrote fondly about his memories of growing up in the city in his book “700 Sundays.”
