Brookhaven constituent phone system hits 300k calls

Nearly three years after it started the program, the Town of Brookhaven says it has surpassed 300,000 calls to its 451-TOWN constituent response system.

The (631) 451-TOWN contact center, staffed with as many as seven call-takers at a time weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., averages more than 500 calls a day from residents seeking everything from general information to questions about garbage collection and recycling, public safety, code enforcement, street lighting, highway maintenance, parks, and town event, the town said in a news release.

The town said the 300,000th call came on July 27. The program was started on Sept. 12, 2007.
