Brookhaven Town closes centers ahead of storm
Due to the impending predicted blizzard bearing down on the region, Brookhaven plans to close the town recreation centers Friday afternoon.
The Brookhaven Aquatic Center in Mastic, the Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center in Blue Point, the Robert Reid, Sr. Recreation Center in Shoreham, the Mastic Recreation Center, the St. Michaels Recreation Center in Gordon Heights and the New Village Recreation Center in Centereach will close at 4:30 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday.
The town also postponed a free firewood event scheduled for Saturday at the town landfill. The event, where residents can pick up firewood collected after superstorm Sandy, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Brush Drop Off location at 350 Horseblock Rd. in Brookhaven hamlet. The free firewood is for town residents only and no commercial vehicles will be permitted.
The town also plans to close the resident drop off at the landfill Saturday.
