Caregiver training for Alzheimer’s in Lynbrook
The Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center Inc. will host a free caregiver training class in Lynbrook, starting Wednesday.
The 14-week training course will be held at Atria Senior Living, on 100 Peninsula Blvd. in Lynbrook. Classes meet every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The course is for professional caregivers who work with patients with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Social workers, nursing home administrators and recreational therapists who attend the class are eligible to receive continuing education unit credits.
The classes will cover five main topics: the process and development of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; the behaviors associated with dementia and how to manage and cope with them; communication skills for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and their families; strategies for developing meaningful activities for those with dementia; and support services and stress management training.
