Celebrations for Chinese American heritage

Several community organizations will come together Sunday evening to celebrate Chinese American heritage on Long Island.

The free presentation, co-sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, will include lion dancing, rock band and Chinese music performances and a martial arts exhibit.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation from a cultural exchange group of 22 young dancers from China who are on a U.S. tour.

“It will be a fun event and since it’s celebrating the Year of the Dragon maybe it will bring good luck to Nassau County,” said Helen Chin, president of the Chinese Center on Long Island, a West Hempstead group.

The celebration will start with a “preshow” at 6 p.m. with the main performances following after 7 p.m. at Eisenhower Park.
