State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick), in partnership with State Police, plans to sponsor a free car seat safety check on Aug. 18 in Seaford.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Long Island Rail Road’s Seaford station parking lot, on the northwest corner of Jackson Avenue and Sunrise Highway.

Officers from the State Police will perform free safety seat inspections to make sure drivers have their children’s car seats properly installed and secured.

Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children in the United States, but placing children in properly installed age- and size-appropriate safety seats reduces serious and fatal injuries by more than half, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Appointments for free car seat safety checks will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. To schedule an appointment, call Fuschillo's office at 516-882-0630.
