Glen Cove officials have approved a contract for on-call engineering services from a Syosset-based consulting firm; the vote was split, 4-1, with one councilman abstaining and another absent.

Officials on Tuesday elected to again contract with Lockwood, Kessler & Bartlett Inc. for solid-waste management, environmental engineering and general municipal engineering in the city. The firm handles Glen Cove’s annual solid-waste management report, Mayor Ralph Suozzi said.

The mayor, a Democrat, and three Democratic councilmen voted in favor of the measure.
Republican Councilman Anthony Gallo Jr. voted against it, and Councilman Reginald Spinello, an Independence Party member, abstained from voting.

A fourth councilman, Anthony Jimenez, a Democrat, was absent.

The production of the annual report by the firm costs about $2,500, Suozzi said.
