Community advocates who rescued the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Day Parade when it was canceled last year announced that they’re working to keep the tradition alive for a 47th go-round in 2013.

Nearly 20 people gathered Friday at Ross Memorial Park in Brentwood to announce a June 23 parade date this year — and an early start to the fundraising efforts that make it possible.

In addition to the yearly display of community pride, the Teatro Yerbabruja nonprofit that now runs the event plans a week of activities “to use this opportunity to discuss social issues and celebrate the culture,” said group director Margarita Espada.
