Hauppauge medical building zoning wins approval
The Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals last week approved a request by a Hauppauge-based business that is seeking to construct a medical office building.
Plans were submitted by Galleria IV Corp. for an 11,817-square-foot office building at the intersection of Terry Road and Route 347. The zoning board approved a variance that would allow the building’s parking lot to be set back 44 feet from nearby residents, rather than the standard 100 feet.
The building would be located behind an existing Walgreen’s pharmacy, said Smithtown planning director Frank DeRubeis. The next step toward construction is site plan approval, DeRubeis said. That includes an environmental review and requires county approval because the building would be located on a county road.
Attempts to reach the owner and lawyer representing Galleria IV Corp. were unsuccessful Monday.
If approved, the new medical office building would become the third building to be constructed at the Terry Road and Route 347 intersection over the past year, DeRubeis said.
A bank is also being built on the southwest corner, and a 7-Eleven was built on the northwest corner last summer.
