Hempstead animal shelter to open Sundays

Hempstead Town’s animal shelter will begin opening for adoptions on Sundays starting Oct. 20.

The shelter, at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh, will be open for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, town officials said in a statement. Thursday hours will be extended to 8 p.m., officials said.

“We are confident that residents will greatly benefit from the animal shelter being open on Sundays,” shelter director Cindy Iacopella said in a statement.

The shelter’s new adoption schedule will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

The shelter’s office hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
