The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter is hosting a seminar in an effort to find foster families and volunteers to assist homeless animals.

The free foster care and volunteering seminar, led by animal shelter staff, will be held on Saturday at noon in the animal shelter, at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh.

The one-hour seminar will provide an overview of the shelter’s programs, and detail the requirements and procedures for becoming involved. Volunteer applications will be available.

Through the shelter’s Foster Volunteer Program, a family temporarily adopts a shelter cat or dog to help the animal become more comfortable living in a home environment. Foster families also have the option to adopt the animal.

General volunteers will be assigned to a range of tasks at the shelter, including helping bottle-feed kittens that enter the shelter during the warmer seasons.
