Holiday turkey drive today in Hauppauge

Tis the season for giving. That’s why Teachers Federal Credit Union and Long Island Aquarium are partnering to co-sponsor a Holiday Turkey Drive today.

The drive will be held until 4:30 p.m. at the credit union’s headquarters, at 102 Motor Pkwy., in Hauppauge.

Long Island Cares, Inc.’s Harry Chapin Food Bank will be there to accept donations of frozen turkeys, whole chickens, and hams, said Lynne O’Leary, the credit union’s vice president of marketing.

This is the first year of the turkey drive, O’Leary said, adding that the need is even greater for victims of superstorm Sandy.

Long Island Cares, working with their various agencies, will dispense the frozen meats to households in need of assistance before Christmas Day, said O’Leary.

All donors are eligible to enter a raffle to win prizes ranging from free tickets to the aquarium to gift cards. The aquarium’s shark truck — a mini-flatbed truck topped by a 3-D scene of a shark cage in the water — will be on site for children and families to take photos in front of, said O’Leary.
