Homeowners can get Sandy insurance help in Copiague, Seaford
A new program aims to help homeowners affected by superstorm Sandy receive insurance settlement checks.
The program is taking place in Seaford and Copiague through Saturday.
State Sen. Charles Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced the launch of the new initiative, in which representatives from five of New York’s largest banks will provide assistance to homeowners seeking the release of Sandy insurance settlement funds. Many residents have been waiting on the funds to finish repairing their damaged homes.

Representatives from Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, CitiMortgage and Ocwen Loan Services will meet one-on-one with homeowners to help them navigate and complete the paperwork needed to have their banks endorse insurance settlement checks, which often are written jointly to homeowners and their banks. Representatives from the state Department of Financial Services, which arranged the program, also will be on hand.
The DFS advised residents to bring copies of any relevant documents, records or correspondence and stated that banks may require proof that repairs have been made before endorsing checks.
In Seaford, representatives will be at Cedar Creek Park on Merrick Road today until 6 p.m., tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In Copiague, representatives will be at the Copiague Memorial Public Library located at 50 Deauville Blvd. today until 6 p.m., tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Homeowners who cannot attend but are in need of assistance can contact the DFS Insurance Assistance Center at 800-339-1759.
