Hunger Action Month in Nassau
As part of a nationwide challenge to increase awareness of and to help those in need, County Executive Edward Mangano and Island Harvest have announced that September is Hunger Action Month in Nassau.
“It gives me pleasure to once again partner with Island Harvest in helping motivate and increase donations so that no resident or family goes hungry,” Mangano said at a news conference in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow this week.
He has the dome of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building illuminated in orange to symbolize the fall harvest, and, for the rest of the month, has coordinated the location of nonperishable food collection receptacles in county buildings.
“Hunger Action Month is an opportunity for all of us to spread the word about the critical and very real issue of hunger on Long Island,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and chief executive of Island Harvest, the Mineola-based food bank for the Island’s needy.
