Islip Town Councilman Steve Flotteron leads Brentwood St. Patrick's Day Parade
Town of Islip Councilman Steve Flotteron couldn't have imagined a better way to spend his Saturday than serving as grand marshal for Saturday’s 45th annual Brentwood St. Patrick's Day Parade.
According to Brentwood Parade Committee chairman Michael Grant, Flotteron was picked because he has been instrumental with the positive progress in the Brentwood community.
“Brentwood is a great community. I believe that all kids are good, but often, some kids lack opportunity,” said Flotteron, 51, of Brightwaters. “I understand there are many hard issues in this world. Whenever I see the opportunity to make things better, I jump at it.”

Flotteron marched in the parade beside his daughters Madison, 15, and Morgan, 13, before about 6,000 attendees, according to estimates by parade organizers.
The parade began at Clark Street and traveled along Washington Avenue, ending at Ross Memorial Park. The celebration included pipe bands, fire trucks, floats, dancers and antique cars.
Grant, the chairman of the Brentwood Parade Committee for the past 13 years, explained that the smiles he sees at the parade is worth all the hard work.
“I love seeing the pipe bands and all the kids on the sidelines,” said the 55-year-old Brentwood resident. “I always get a kick out of this parade and seeing all the green.”
Paradegoers wearing shamrock sunglasses and hats, green beads and waving Irish flags reveled in the festive activities.
“I am Irish. I love this parade because everybody is Irish today,” said Deborah Kirnon of Brentwood. “To see everyone in full green is amazing. Today is one big happy family for everyone.”
