The Town of Islip will host a free job-search boot camp for town residents to help those searching for employment boost their interview skills, spruce up their resumes and improve their “personal brand.”

The five-member town board, meeting as the Industrial Development Agency board, voted last month to authorize Executive Consultants of New York to host the workshops, which will take place on various Mondays and Wednesdays throughout September and October.

Executive Consultants, a consulting agency founded by Maria Themistocleous-Frey that specializes in career coaching, will be paid $4,725 by the town’s IDA to provide eight three-hour seminars for Islip residents.

Town spokeswoman Inez Birbiglia said as of Tuesday there were 28 people signed up and spots are available for 50, adding that 10 spots will be reserved for military veterans.

“It’s important that we offer these programs to our returning veterans, so they are provided with the tools they need to attain employment in our town,” Councilman John Cochrane said in a statement.

The 57 town human services employees who will lose their jobs effective Nov. 1 when the department is dissolved were given first priority to sign up for the boot camp, Birbiglia said, and seven of them have registered.

The sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Sept. 12 through Oct. 17 and Mondays on Oct. 22 and 29 at Islip Town Hall, 655 Main St.

Those interested in attending the boot camp can call 631-224-5512 to make reservations.
