Kings Park School Board to elect president
The Kings Park School Board will have its annual organizational meeting Tuesday to elect a president and vice president and appoint other positions for the 2013-2014 school year.
The oath of office will be administered to board members Tom Locascio and Liz Barrett, who were re-elected in May, as well as to Superintendent Susan Agruso and those elected board president and vice president at the meeting, which will be held at Kings Park High School.
The president and vice president receive the agenda before the rest of the board for approval of resolutions, and the president typically has weekly contact with the superintendent, said Barrett, who is the current vice president.
“The president signs off on the resolutions after they’re approved at the meeting,” she said. “If the president is not present at the meeting, then the vice president would run the meeting and sign off on the resolutions.”
Marie Goldstein has been president for the past year and was vice president the previous year, Barrett said. Because there are no term limits, the two could be re-elected, she added.
“I enjoy it,” Barrett said of the position. “Typically we take turns . . . that way everyone has the experience of doing it.”
Locascio said the board will have a discussion before the start of the meeting and decide which members will serve in the two leadership positions.
When asked whether he planned to lobby for either position, Locascio said, “It’s up to all five [board members] to decide. And we haven’t had any conversations on that yet.”
The board will also make appointments for district clerk, district treasurer, claims/internal/external auditor, school attorney, labor negotiator and school physicians, according to the meeting agenda.
