It's that time of year when the leaves start falling and LIers are wondering what to do with the fallen foliage. Check out the leaf collection schedule for your town.

BABYLON

When does the town collect leaves?

How often are leaves collected?

Weekly on the scheduled yard waste day. (Schedule is on the Recycling Calendar sent to residents; also listed on town website.) Yard waste must be bagged and weigh less than 50 pounds.

Does the town provide leaf collection bags?

Yes, the town distributes leaf bags to residents beginning the last week of October. Leftover bags are distributed from Town Hall while supplies last.

EAST HAMPTON

When does the town collect leaves?

The town voted in April to discontinue leaf collection, a move intended to save the town $450,000 a year.

Residents can take leaves to the town recycling center, 260 Springs Fireplace Rd., 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. (Closed Wednesdays)

HEMPSTEAD

Weekly, on Wednesdays, except in winter months. Residents can leave up to 30 bags of leaves at the curb per week.

Yes, leaf bags are dropped off on driveways by the Highway Department. A second set of bags can be picked up at the Highway Department office in Elwood.

Yes, since last year the town has provided brown paper bags. Bags are free and can be picked up on Fridays at the highway department, 1177 Osborne Ave., Riverhead.

Leaves need to be in brown paper bags or loose in a garbage can. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected. The town will vacuum leaves in the street beginning around Thanksgiving.

SMITHTOWN

When does the town collect leaves?

Fall leaf collection began Nov. 1.

How often are leaves collected?

In the first two weeks, typically once a week. As leaves pile up, it may take up to three weeks for crews to make a pass through the entire town. (Leaves are also collected year-round with yard waste.)

No, the practice was discontinued.
