Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano joined Legis. Rose Walker (R-Hicksville) and RXR Realty chief executive Scott Rechler on Friday to announce the 2013 RXR Long Island Marathon Weekend, May 3-5.
The marathon has grown to include a full and half-marathon, 10K, 5K, 1-mile run, and Kids Fun Run.
“The Long Island Marathon is one of the Island’s most exciting events, and I am pleased to once again team up with the community of runners and RXR,” Mangano said at his Mineola headquarters. “As part of our FitNassau Initiative, I encourage everyone to use this opportunity to become physically active and participate.”
Rechler of RXR, the event’s primary sponsor, said, “The Marathon weekend is not only a great athletic and community event, it is also a contributor to both the Long Island and Nassau County economies.”
The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. on May 3 with a vendor expo at the Mitchel Athletic Complex, followed by the Main Event “Carbohydration” Pasta Party at 6:30 p.m., courtesy of a local restaurant and sports bar.
