US Airways  will add another daily flight to Washington, D.C., from Long Island MacArthur Airport this fall, Islip Town officials said this week.

The additional flight to Reagan National Airport will arrive at MacArthur at 4:49 p.m. and will depart at 5:15 p.m., and will bring the number of flights at the Ronkonkoma airport to 23, interim airport Commissioner Terry Hennessey said.

“Business is good to Washington,” Hennessey said, adding that the additional 55-minute flight from MacArthur to Reagan was the result of high demand from business travelers. “It’s a sign that business travel is on the upswing, which is very, very important to us. We’re encouraged by it and we hope it leads to other frequencies by US Air, Southwest and hopefully a third carrier.”

The additional daily flight will start Oct. 28, Hennessey said. The airport’s newly chosen commissioner, Robert Schaefer, is scheduled to start Oct. 1.
