Meetings in Bellmore, Merrick on Sandy recovery

Nassau County Legis. Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) and Village of Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy plan to host community meetings in Bellmore and North Merrick for residents recovering from superstorm Sandy.

The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Bellmore Knights of Columbus Hall, 2333 Bellmore Ave. The second meeting is scheduled for July 23, at 7 p.m. in the Brookside Central Administration Building, 1260 Meadowbrook Rd. in North Merrick.

The gatherings are intended to provide residents with information about local disaster relief and storm prevention. Issues to be discussed include rebuilding and elevating homes, insurance and FEMA assistance.

Representatives from the Freeport and Hempstead Town building departments, FEMA, Hempstead Town engineering department, Freeport public works department and construction companies have been invited to speak.
