The Tyree Curry Memorial 5k Run & Walk-a-Thon and Health Fair will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday.

The event, in its seventh year, is sponsored by Hempstead Village and is set to run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 5-kilometer run/walk will begin in Kennedy Park, 335 Greenwich St.

The event has been renamed in memory of Tyree Curry, a local educator, civil rights activist and photographer who died last year. The event seeks to promote healthy living and anti-obesity efforts, while raising funds for deserving Hempstead High School graduates seeking to attend college.

In conjunction with the race, the health fair will feature food, games, activities and more. The fair will also be held in the park. Participants can register on-site from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. the day of the race for $25.

For more information, call Sherina Gonzales in the village’s Community Development Agency office at 516- 485-5737 ext. 229 or e-mail sgonzalez@hempsteadvillagecda.org.
