Mineola nonprofit holds drive for school supplies, clothing

A Mineola nonprofit is adding a request for donations of new clothing and sneakers to its yearly school-supply drive.

Joyce Mullen, spokeswoman for Family and Children’s Association, said the agency asked for the clothing items last year, but got very few from donors who weren’t used to buying jeans along with pencils and backpacks.

“We did it last year for the first time because of the cost of sneakers and jeans and trying to get kids to feel good about the start of the school year,” Mullen said.

The agency is also asking for donations of calculators, notebooks and other school supplies for its drive, which continues through Oct. 15.

Donors are asked to drop off the items at the agency’s office at 100 E. Old Country Rd., Suite 25, in Mineola.
