Mitt Romney, Mickey Mouse outvoted for Massapequa school board
With no one on the ballot Tuesday for the one available school board seat in Massapequa, filling the three-year term came down to write-in votes, which were counted manually until about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
When the tally was done, local tree service company owner Tim Taylor had been elected with 702 votes. No surprise there: He has served on the board for the past six years but hadn’t filed a petition in time to get his name on the ballot this year.
Other write-in vote-getters were Leslie Dowell, a former PTA Council president who has never served on the board, with 239; and Christine Perrino, a former board member who served nine years until 2011, with 223.

One vote was cast for Mickey Mouse. The famous rodent’s support matched that of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who also got one vote. Since neither is a district resident, they would not have been eligible to serve even if they had outpolled Taylor.
